Crafting the Perfect Steak: Vleish's Signature Method | Vleish

Cooking the perfect steak is more than just a culinary task; it's an experience that elevates a simple meal into an extraordinary one. At Vleish, we pride ourselves on precision and technique, ensuring every steak is a masterpiece. Here's our tried-and-true method for achieving steak perfection.

Ingredients:

- Your preferred cut of steak (2.5 to 4cm thick)
- Salt (preferably kosher or sea salt)
- Optional: freshly ground black pepper, herb butter, or a dash of olive oil

Equipment:

- Cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan
- Meat thermometer
- Oven preheated to 230°C
- Paper towels

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Preheat the Oven

Start by preheating your oven to 230°C. This ensures your steak will cook evenly and develop a delicious crust.

2. Prepare the Steak

Pat your steak dry with paper towels. This is crucial for achieving a good sear, as moisture can impede caramelization. Generously season both sides of the steak with salt. If you like, add a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper for extra flavor.

3. Heat the Skillet

Place a cast-iron skillet or a heavy-bottomed pan over high heat and allow it to heat for 5-6 minutes. The pan should be hot enough to sear the steak immediately upon contact.

4. Searing Perfectly

Once the skillet is piping hot, place your seasoned steak into the pan. Allow it to sear for 2-3 minutes on each side until a beautiful brown crust develops.

5. Finish in the Oven

After searing, transfer the entire skillet to your preheated oven. Cook the steak for an additional 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even cooking.

6. Check temperature

Use a meat thermometer to periodically check the steak's internal temperature. For medium-rare, aim for a temperature of 49-50°C. Remember, the temperature will rise slightly during resting.

7. Let It Rest

Once the correct temperature is reached, remove the steak from the oven. It's essential to let the steak rest for 8 to 10 minutes. This resting period allows the meat's juices to redistribute, resulting in a tender, juicy steak when cut.

Serving Suggestions

Pair your perfectly cooked steak with roasted vegetables, a crisp salad, or creamy mashed potatoes. For a touch of decadence, serve with a pat of herb butter melting on top.

By following the Vleish method, you will master the art of steak preparation, blending simplicity with expert skills. Enjoy the rich flavors and sublime textures of your perfectly crafted steak, right from your own kitchen. Here's to an unforgettable dining experience!
